Description

Thank-you for your interest in attending a Project417 "Sandwich Run". We've been facilitating this outreach in Toronto for more than a decade and can assure you a rewarding experience in helping the homeless population of the inner city who live on the streets. What is a "sandwich run"? A sandwich run is simply volunteers delivering nutritious bag lunches to homeless street people by walking well travelled routes in the downtown area where street people live (we don't always run ; ) . It is a relational outreach, that is - in addition to delivering a meal to a hungry person, hopefully dialogue will occur and bridges of trust strengthened. All sandwich runs take place in the evening between about 7PM and 10PM.

Requirements

Over the age of sixteen, unless accompanied by adult counsellors. Physically fit and able to walk a few kilometres over the course of an evening. ( The entire route is wheelchair accessible) Must attend and participate in a 15 -20 minute orientation session the same evening of the sandwich run folled by a similar debrief session at the end. Must have a cheerful disposition and a real willingness to help the homeless and converse with them. There are special arrangements if your group would like to volunteer all at the same time ( groups sizes accomodated from 10 to 100).
