In addition to this, our Outreach Projects continue to benefit and change lives in Southern and Western States of India. El Shaddai has impacted thousands of children and families over the years and continues to touch more lives through its various initiatives. We want to reach out to many more children with the love of God. In the year 2013 ESCT has been accredited by Credibility Alliance which is one of the Leading Accreditation Agencies in India. FOUNDERS Anita Edgar Co-Founder Anita Edgar is the Co-Founder of El Shaddai Charitable Trust Ltd. Supporting underprivileged Street Children in India. Anita, as the main Fundraiser, provides the money needed to look after the Children by finding sponsors. She works in Goa with great enthusiasm and drive and then often travels to America, Europe and Australia raising funds and promoting the much-needed work of El Shaddai. Matthew Kurian Co-Founder, Pastor and Social Worker Ps. Matthew is the founder and managing trustee. He started El Shaddai Trust in the year 1997. He began his working life in the hospitality sector in his hometown in Cochin, Kerala. After completing his BTH course, in 1993 he came to Goa and started working with alcoholics and drug abusers. He has 26 years of work experience. HISTORY The story of El Shaddai begins with our co–founders Mr. Matthew Kurian and Mrs. Anita Edgar. In the year 1994, Mr. Matthew started his Ministry amongst poor with no money in Goa. He had a desire to start Homes and Shelters for underprivileged and since then, Mr. Kurian had been helping Goan children in need. In 1996, Mrs. Anita Edgar, a British lady during her trip to Goa saw many deprived children in need of help. The future for these young ones looked bleak. One Sunday morning Mrs. Anita Edgar met Pastor Matthew Kurian who was the pastor of Faith Community Church and shared the same vision with him and together they started a charity called El Shaddai Charitable Trust. It was founded in 1997 to care and nurture the homeless and destitute children, giving them a better future. It’s Hebrew meaning is “Lord of Comfort Provider of All”. When El Shaddai proudly set up its very first children’s home, Victory house, the charity warmly received an inaugural group of 15 children. They and others, whose lives have been touched by El Shaddai’s programs over the years, have now achieved economic independence and stability in life. The Children’s Home lights a beacon of hope for the children of migrant workers as they are given a chance to expand their horizons in many ways. Now El Shaddai is working with abandoned street children and those from the economically poor or broken families in Goa and the other parts of India. The compassionate organization now cares for more than 4000 children in four states through 25 different projects. Matthew Kurian says: “Every child is very precious. Every child is a success story. For me, the opportunity to work with a child is a success”. Thank you!
