Development for Change, are looking for new board members; bringing adult foster care, chemical dependency
support into more effective methods of recovery.
The focus is transitional, or permanent housing; faith based recovery services; for young adults that have
chemical addictions. We are seeking business developer, strategic planner, that have passion for helping others
with substance abuse, and mental illness.

Individual Board Member Responsibilities

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
Understand and support Development for Change, mission.
Be knowledgeable about Development for Change, major programs and services.
Be familiar with Development for Change, strategic goals.
Be knowledgeable about Development for Change, Policies.
Follow trends and important developments in the field.
Recommend qualified individuals with relevant skills and experience as possible nominees for the board.
Willingly volunteer and use your special skills to further (DFC) mission.
Complete all tasks (including responding to Development for Change correspondence) in a responsible and timely
manner.
Avoid prejudiced judgments.
Serve as visible and articulate advocates of AGENCY.
Develop a good working relationship with other board members and with the president.
Speak for the board or Development for Change, only when authorized to do so.
Do what a sense of fairness, ethics, and personal integrity dictate, even though not necessarily obliged to do
so by law, regulation, or custom.

MEETINGS
Attend board and committee meetings according to annual schedule and attendance policy.
Prepare for board and committee meetings by carefully reading and considering materials in advance.
Actively participate in board and committee meetings by listening, asking timely and substantive questions and
offering thoughtful suggestions, ideas and opinions.
Respect the confidentiality of the boardÂ’s executive decisions.
Suggest agenda items for future board and committee meetings.

RELATIONS WITH STAFF
Advise and assist the president when needed and appropriate.
Avoid burdening the staff with requests for special favors.
Develop a good relationship with staff, but ensure that any communication with staff below the president
doesnÂ’t undermine the relationship between the president and his/her staff.

AVOIDING CONFLICTS
Avoid, in fact and in perception, conflicts of interest that might embarrass the board or AGENCY, and disclose
to the board in a timely manner any possible conflicts.
In your capacity as a Development for Change; board member, do not accept (or offer) favors or gifts from (or
to) anyone who does business with AGENCY.

FIDUCIARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Board Members must purchase a Development for Change; membership at the highest level commensurate with your
personal circumstances.
Assist in fund raising by, for example, identifying prospective donors, personally asking others to make a
contribution, or signing thank-you letters to contributors, etc.
Contribute an annual gift to Development for Change; commensurate with your personal circumstances.
Read and understand Development for Change financial statements. (not available at this time)
Act knowledgeably and prudently when making recommendations about how Development for Change; financial
resources should be spent.

RESPONSIBILITIES-PAST BOARD MEMBERS
Following active service as a Development for Change; board member, continue to serve as an advocate and
financial supporter as your personal circumstances allow.
