Description

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, one out of five boys and one out of three girls will be sexually abused before the age of 18. When child sexual abuse remains undiscovered or untreated, it causes a lifetime of damage that scars children and destroys families, leaving offenders free to continue the abuse, and crippling future generations of our children. Join us as we make a difference in the lives of abused children. The CACs onsite Playroom helps facilitate the work by our therapists, medical clinic, investigators and interviewers. Children go to the playroom between services and are allowed time to play, do homework, eat, etc. We serve almost 10,000 kids a year in our Playroom, which relies on donations of toys and clothes from the community. Below is a list of some ideas of how our Playroom Friends can help out. Feel free to be creative and come up with your own ideas. *Hold a drive for new toys, new clothes, art supplies, toiletries, books, etc *Create activity books for children to complete while in the Playroom *Donate presents from your birthday party to the kids at The CAC *Plan an event whose proceeds will benefit The CAC: *Car wash *Bake sale *Lemonade stand *Pancake breakfast

Requirements

The CAC serves kids ages birth through 17. When making the books please keep these ages in mind and choose any age group you'd like--or make some for different age groups. Feel free to use your creativity and make them as fun as you can by including coloring pages, crossword puzzles, word finds, logic puzzles, etc. If you choose to place a personal note or message in the book, please do not say anything about abuse. Please keep the notes positive--"Hope you have a great day!", "Keep smiling", etc. The books will be used throughout the year. There is no specific deadline. Please bring the books to The CAC as you complete them. Thank you!
