Organizational Statement of Faith

STATEMENT OF FAITH Preamble Washington Beltway Community Church ( ‚"WBCC ‚") recognizes that theology is a progressive discovery of truth in an individual's lifetime. The quest for truth evolves with time, spiritual maturity, and revelation. No individual or church has "all the truth" at any given point in time. Neither WBCC, nor its Senior Pastor claim to have all the truth, but are on a constant journey for discovery of more truth. We have a spiritual responsibility to "walk in the light" which we have received at that particular time. Therefore, WBCC seeks not to be divisive in publishing our statement of faith. Rather we are inclusive and tolerant, instead of exclusive and dogmatic, knowing that the "Light of Jesus Christ continues to shine" and our eyes are opened at different periods during our journey. ‚•We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, which is the authoritative guidance for this congregation. (II Timothy 3:16) ‚•We believe in one God, who is eternally manifested as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of all things (Genesis 1:1, St. John 1:3; Colossians 1:16). God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. (St. John 4:24) ‚•We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself (II Corinthians 5:19). Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the third day for our sins. (St. John 3:16, St. Luke 24:46) ‚•We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter that came to dwell with us, and in us. (St. John 14:16-17, 26) ‚•We believe that genuine repentance is a prerequisite for a conversion experience. Those that come to Jesus Christ with a repentant heart will not be turned away. (St. John 6:37) ‚•We believe in water baptism by immersion (Acts 2:38, Acts 19:5, Romans 6:4). Water baptism is an outward sign of the inward work of repentance. (I Peter 3:21) ‚•We believe that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is available to all believers, independent of religious affiliation. The Holy Spirit empowers the believer (Acts 1:8), and is a separate and distinct experience outside of water baptism. (Acts 8:16, Acts 10:44-48) ‚•We believe that the normative sign of Holy Spirit Baptism is glossolalia (Speaking in Tongues) (Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-48). We recognize that there are other signs of the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives. (Galatians 5:22-23) ‚•We believe also in the Laying on of Hands for Ordination of Pastors, Elders, Divine Healing and for receiving gifts of the Holy Spirit. (Titus 1:5, Mark 16:18, I Timothy 4:14) ‚•We believe in the last days (eschatology) which include the Second Coming of Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment of all, and their eternal reward. (I Thess. 4:16-17, Hebrews 6:2)
