Mission Statement

Summit is a non-profit corporation working with inner-city Milwaukee families to establish high goals for the educational excellence and character development of their children so that each student has the opportunity to chose a post-secondary education. Summit fosters relationships between dedicated mentors, parents, and their children to encourage children's intellectual, cultural and moral growth through tutoring, recreation, and personal friendship.

Description

Summit works with inner-city 4th - 9th graders by offering an after school one-on-one tutoring program and a full time, seven week long summer program. We place a high value on treating each student as "A. V.I.P." : the A is for academics, the V is for virtues, the I is for individual attention and the P is for parents, the primary educator of each child. Thus, each program focuses its attention on each of these cornerstone values: academic and character virtues by means of individual attention and supporting parents. All of Summit's programs are volunteer based and we rely on the generosity of our volunteers who donate a couple of hours each week to expand the horizons of the at-risk students we serve.

Organizational Statement of Faith

Summit is inspired by the social teachings of the Catholic Church and Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church. Programs are open to all children regardless of race, creed or color. Because parents are the primary educators of their children, we respect and support the faith they foster in their children.
