Description

The Salvation Army is a church that does a lot of social work - in a nutshell. Founded by a Methodist minister in 1865, it was originally formed to help the people drowning in the slums of England. The idea was, get them fed, cleaned up and sober, get them saved, and let them into the church where they can get on track in every aspect of life. When the local churches of England would not accept these reformed men, women and children, they went back to William Booth and demanded he start a worship time for them. Out of that came The Salvation Army - today in over 114 countries worldwide provideing services from orphanages to schools for the blind to rent and utility assistance to rehabilitation centers to hospitals and nurses training schools to innumerable other types of services worldwide as needed in the communities they serve.
