On any given night in Memphis, you will find over 200 men, women and children living in a Salvation Army facility in Memphis. The Salvation Army’s Purdue Center of Hope located at 696 Jackson Avenue, houses 122 homeless women and children each night in one of three shelter programs: the Emergency Family Shelter, the "Zone" (single women’s emergency shelter) and Renewal Place (chemically addicted homeless women and their children). Other programs at the Purdue Center include a 3-star licensed childcare, disaster services, Angel Tree (holiday gift program), community intake and assessment program/permanent supportive housing hotline. The Adult Rehabilitation Center at 130 North Danny Thomas is a drug and alcohol program for 87 men who follow a 12 step program. This program is totally self-supporting, and dependent upon public donations of clothing, furniture, appliances, which are sold in the Thrift Stores. The two Salvation Army Corps located at 672 Alabama Avenue and at 4741 Winchester provide worship services, character building programs for youth, families, and seniors.
