Mission Statement

Good Works exists to connect people from all walks of life with the poor so that the kingdom of God can be experienced "I made the widow's heart sing, I was a father to the fatherless. I took up the case of the stranger" (Job 29:12-17) THE VISION OF GOOD WORKS is to fulfill Jesus own mission to "bring good news to the poor" (Luke 4:18) by creating a range of different 'contexts' to care for those struggling with poverty in rural Appalachia. The Timothy House, The Hannah House, The Transformation Station, Summer Service, and Friday Night Life are examples of a particular 'context' through which we bring good news to the poor. Our mission is to LOVE the stranger, the fatherless and the widow and in doing so, help others find a place to serve with us -- to extend themselves in love and grow spiritually. To do this, we have created and seek to sustain a "Christian care-community" through which we can model FAITH in the good news of the power of Jesus Christ to change our lives. Furthermore, in addition to meeting the felt needs of the poor, we seek to instill HOPE through acts of service and compassion in partnership with those in the world who are not-yet Christians and in partnership with the body of Christ. In doing this, we fulfill both the great commandment and the great commission and grow as disciples ourselves, as the followers of Jesus.
