Description

As part of our progressive series of leadership development programs among urban young people, we operate three afterschool programs. During these programs, our volunteer tutors assist one or two students to complete their daily assigned homework. Tutors may also help students work on supplemental materials to strengthen basic skills in math, reading and spelling. Tutors serve for one or two hours a day, one day a week, for a semester. They typically work one-on-one with young people. They serve in classrooms of 10-15 students, led by teachers on our staff.

Requirements

Our best tutors exhibit patience, encouragement and compassion, as well as a strong desire to see students grow academically. All tutors are required to complete an application and provide two references. Adults (over 18) will be asked to complete a criminal record check and child abuse clearance form. Students who desire to become tutors must be in at least ninth grade and have a 3.0 or above GPA.
