Description
Sanctuary will build upon the past successes of Starlight?s Youth Outreach, taking the relationships formed on
the streets to a deeper level by providing an environment to nurture, inspire, and continue to walk alongside
the youth with whom we already are working. We aim to provide a place of comfort, peace, and growth, where
street youth and young adults will feel encouraged and free to explore their dreams and, for some, learn how to
dream. Our ultimate hope is that this community will be a bridge that leads many to Christ; that those who enter
its doors will come to know how precious and valuable they are; and that through this community they will gain
an understanding of their full potential and how to actualize that potential, with the knowledge that God has
an amazing, unique plan and purpose for their lives.
Requirements
The primary responsibility of a Core Team volunteer is to build healthy relationships with the young people
who are a part of Sanctuary and with fellow Core Team members. Core Team volunteers must understand that their
presence at Sanctuary is meant to communicate their commitment to know, love, and serve the street community in
Boston. Core Team members will spend their time in prayer and conversation together before and after the
weekly event, and participate in Sanctuary activities with those who attend. The Core and Support teams will work
effectively and collaboratively, building a team-based and multicultural environment, treating all persons with
dignity, respect, and love.
Expectations of Core Team Members:
* Able to make a one-year commitment.
* Able to commit to serving a 3-hour shift on Tuesdays between 7-10pm on a weekly basis.
* Able and eager to build relationships with hard-to-reach youth and young adults.
* Provide consistent leadership and mentoring to street youth/Sanctuary attendees.
* Complete volunteer application, interview and CORI check.
* Attend Sanctuary Training provided by Starlight staff.
* Able to support fellow Core Team members.
Sanctuary Core Team members must be:
* Committed Christians who are able to demonstrate such a commitment.
* Able to support the mission and leadership of Starlight
* Mature, responsible, able to fulfill commitments, and adhere to Starlight policies
* At least 21 years old and have graduated from high school (or equivalency).
* Employed, enrolled in school, or actively pursuing employment and education (We want Core Team members to
be positive role models for youth members)
