Mission Statement
The Latino Farmers Cooperative of Louisiana, Inc is a demand-driven, grassroots nonprofit organization of emerging farmers, enthusiastic gardeners and conscious consumers who are working together to provide access to farmland, resources, education and training so members can grow healthy food in urban sustainable farms, create entrepreneurship and address the socioeconomic issues of the Latino community in Louisiana.
Description
The Latino Farmers Cooperative of Louisiana Inc. wants to strengthen the capacity among Latinos families in the area of food, urban farming and nutrition. We accomphish this: 1) by improving access to nutritious, affordable, traditional and ethnically foods; 2) by increasing food security among neighborhoods that lack full service food stores; 3) by fostering and developing social and economic justice in programs and services; 4) by generating marketing and processing practices that create more direct and beneficial links between farmers and consumers; 5) by empowering stakeholders to improve their quality of life; and 6) by supporting food and agriculture policies that promote local food production, processing and consumption. Our programs and services include: 1) Community Gardening Program 2) The Urban Chicken 3) The Daily Bread Food Pantry 4) Access to Community Markets
