Mission Statement

The mission of Big Friends Little Friends - a program of Family Service, Inc. (formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lawrence) is to make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth. We are a volunteer organization that provides support, guidance, and friendship to children by matching youngsters to adult role models. We match each child we serve with a mentor who believes in them. We offer our "Big's" the opportunity to experience the magic that comes with exposing a child to new perspectives and possibilities. .

Description

Little Moments, Big Magic Big Friends Little Friends, formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lawrence, matches children with caring adults (16 yrs old and up) who serve as role models and friends. By simply spending a few hours a month with a child, you can help to increase their self-confidence and create a more positive outlook for their future. Making a BIG difference! Matches are made with considerations to such things as geographic location, preferences, interests and personalities. We currently offer six different mentoring programs: Traditional / Community-Based Mentoring, Site-Based Mentoring, Mentoring Out Loud (a program for deaf and hard of hearing children), Couples, Family Matches, and Cross-Gender Matches. We serve: Amesbury, Boxford, Groveland, Lawrence, Methuen, Newburyport, Rowley, Andover, Georgetown, Haverhill, Merrimac, Newbury, North Andover, Salisbury, and West Newbury. About Big Friends Little Friends Bigs open doors and challenge young minds. Outings might be recreational, character building, or educational. A Big could provide the first opportunity for a child to explore a museum, hike a mountain, or join a sports team. The Big may be the only adult in the child's life who can consistently devote time to just hanging out, one-on-one. The most common outings are as simple as walking in the park, baking a cake, or renting a movie. Big Friends have the opportunity to be a true friend to a child in need.
