Mission Statement

The Denver Street School is an alternative junior high and high school dedicated to providing a quality education in an atmosphere permeated with the love of Jesus Christ.

Description

The Denver Street School is an accredited school that offers a second chance for a high school diploma. We are small by design -- 65-75 students in the whole school with an aim to have a 10 to 1 student teacher ratio. We have two locations in the Denver Area: -The West Campus is located at 1380 Ammons Street in Lakewood near the intersection of West Colfax and Wadsworth. -The East Campus is located in Aurora at 1585 Kingston Street just north of the intersection of East Colfax and Kingston. For more information see denverstreetschool.com. Tom Tillapaugh, the founder, writes: "The Denver Street School (DSS) is now in its 21st year of providing just such an education to the troubled and at-risk teens of the Denver metro area. When I founded the school in 1985 in a little house in the most troubled part of Denver, I knew that a quality Christ-based education delivered in a small personal family like environment would be a major part of the solution. I also believed that sacrificial intervention on the part of our faculty and staff in the lives of our very challenging student body, often without the support of the parents, was crucial. Our years of success have borne out my earlier contentions. Students who would have dropped out, gone to jail, or been crippled by addictions have found great success in college, the workplace, and the military. They all have caught a vision of a bright successful future and are on their way to attaining it. The success of the Denver Street School has gone far beyond Colorado. Through the National Association of Street Schools, the DSS model is now replicated all over the nation."

Organizational Statement of Faith

DENVER STREET SCHOOL STATEMENT OF FAITH 1. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as being verbally inspired and completely inerrant in the original manuscripts and of supreme and final authority in all subjects on which they speak. (Mt. 5:17,18; Lk 24:27,44; Jn. 10:35; II Tim. 3:16; II Pet. 1:21) 2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Mt. 28:17-19; Mk. 12:29; Jn. 6:27; Acts 5:3-4; Heb. 1:8; II Cor. 13:14) 3. We believe that Jesus was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man. (Mt. 1:16, 20-25; Lk. 2:40, 52, 7:48; Jn. 11:35; Phil. 2:5-8) 4. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to witness to and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ (Jn. 15:26; 16:13,14), and during this age to convict men, regenerate the sinner, indwell, guide, instruct, gift, and empower the believer for godly living and effective service. 5. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word and deed. (Gen. 1:26, 2:17, 6:5; Ps. 14:1-3, 51:5; Ro. 3:10-19, 8:6-7; Eph. 2:1-3) 6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins and for the sins of the whole world. We believe that He was buried and bodily rose from the dead according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. (I Jn. 2:2; I Cor. 15:4; Jn. 1:29, 3:16; Ro. 3:25,26; II Cor. 5:21 ) 7. We believe that all who repent and receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God and have eternal life. (Jn. 1;12, 3:12, 5:24, 10:27-29; Acts 16:31; Ro. 8:28-39; Titus 3:5; Jude 24) 8. We believe in ‚?that blessed hope ‚?, the personal and visible return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (Jn. 14:1-3; I Thes. 4:13-18) 9. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting separation from God of the lost. (Rev. 20:11-15; Jn. 14:3) 10. We believe that the Church, composed of all those who truly believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, is the Body and Bride of Christ. We believe that Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church; that all believers are baptized into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, and thus having become members of one another, we are responsible to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Eph. 1:22,23; I Cor. 12:13; Eph. 4:3)
