Mission Statement

Cilie Yack's Sous Club for Kids, Inc. is designed to minister to the needs of children on restrictive diets due to food allergies, intolerance, auto immune disorders, or medical care needs. Our mission is to get kids eating healthy allergy-free foods and loving it through a social cooking club that helps these kids learn to cope with their dietary restrictions, gain self-advocacy skills, and to foster peer support. The club avoid peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, soy, fish, shellfish, wheat, gluten, corn, and dairy in all club recipes.

Description

The organization is designed to provide volunteer adult members with the resources and materials they need to start a club in their local school district, private school, church, or community. Our organization has a detailed facilitator guidebook and sample curricula started. The program is based on cartoon characters from a children's novel that deals with celiac disease and how to thrive after diagnosis. The non-profit organization is open to children of various conditions and chooses to only use recipes that are free from the top 8 allergens, gluten, and corn to widen the scope and effectiveness of the program. The club has a 115 page facilitator guide book that includes posters to promote the club, attendance and duty sheets, registration forms, sample proposal letter, and 50 detailed pages describing the nuances of allergies and intolerance to parents willing to volunteer their time with a start-up club in their neighborhood. Curricula materials, games, and fun contests and prizes for kids are all planned elements of our program. We are a start up organization that is looking for like-minded people with a real burden for this population. This organization is classified as a tax deductible 501(c)3. For this organization to be a success it needs help from knowledgeable and caring volunteers that have skills in a variety of areas and a real passion for helping these kids overcome the social isolation and anxiety of special diets. The organization is currently beta testing the program with a charter national club this fall. With over 6 million children on special diets for allergies in this country we estimate possible enrollment of 8,000 members in the next couple of years. The program is set to launch in January 2011 with initial online curricula that will be available for the general public to see.
