Mission Statement

Aid for Women is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit volunteer organization established in 1978 to empower individuals to make choices consistent with the dignity of the human person and the family. We are the only life-affirming pregnancy center in Chicago’s downtown Loop and the only Chicago area pregnancy center listed in the Official Catholic (Kenedy) Directory. Founded on the faith and teachings of the Catholic Church, we give each client unconditional compassion while we discuss the development of her baby, abortion procedures and their risks, adoption possibilities, the benefits of abstinence until marriage, and a range of women’s health issues. Our message – positive alternatives to abortion, the dignity and value of chastity, and the noble and sacred role of motherhood – is communicated to an ethnically diverse population of women drawn from all sections of the Chicago Metropolitan area.

Description

Aid for Women is headquartered at 8 S. Michigan Avenue, on the corner of Michigan and Madison, with a second location in Berwyn, IL at 3240 Oak Park Avenue. Both locations provide clients with free pregnancy tests, confidential counseling, assistance in finding the most appropriate personal and community resources available, information on reproductive health and the risks and side effects of abortion. For the time being, ultrasounds are only offered at our Downtown location, and our long-term Mentoring and Bonus programs are run out of the Downtown office as well. We are able to offer our services to those who speak Spanish at our Berwyn location. Aid for Women is also opening a maternity home, Heather's House, in Des Plaines, IL in the summer of 2011. Many of our clients, in considering whether to choose life, are without a reliable place to live - a circumstance that greatly complicates their ultimate choice. Heather's House will give clients and their babies a loving residential environment where they can stay for up to two years. The women will participate in programs to learn life and parenting skills, further their education and gain the career training necessary to be independent and self-sufficient mothers. Our general appointment hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm, with extended time on Tuesdays until 6pm. Saturday we are open 10am-12:30pm.
