Knox Area Rescue Ministries serves the East Tennessee area as a Christian ministry devoted to rescue, recovery and restoration, providing food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, and healing for hurting people in our community. Our purpose is to seek to rescue the poor and needy of the Knox area by providing recovery services in Jesus’ name. We supply emergency food and shelter to men, women and children 24 hours a day, seven days a week. KARM is home to nearly 400 people each night and serves more than 1,200 meals daily. Our New Life Inn is the only emergency service of its kind in the area that allows families with children under 18 to be housed together. We have served the East Tennessee community since 1960. KARM's recovery services offer extended-stay residential drug and alcohol addiction rehabilitation programs for both men and women, which prepare them for success in mainstream society. We also offer job training through the Abundant Life Kitchen, our culinary arts program, and CleanStart, our janitorial training program. These programs teach motivated individuals new career skills, helping break the cycle of unemployment, and improving the quality of life for themselves and their families. Our Crossroads Welcome Center is a restoration resource hub unlike any other in the area, providing access to personal business services for the unemployed and homeless, such as telephones, computers, job boards, space for meeting with social services agencies, and other resources seven days a week. This invaluable service creates an atmosphere where people can find the tools and means they need to work toward changing their circumstances. In our fiftieth year, Knox Area Rescue Ministries continues to prayerfully envision future services to meet the needs of the homeless and hurting in our area, while staying true to our core mission statement of “restoring lives in Jesus’ name.”
